Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Manage full-cycle accounting and financial reporting for both Canadian and U.S. operations

  • Oversee tax compliance, including Canadian GST/HST and U.S. sales tax filings, and coordinate with external accountants for corporate tax filings

  • Prepare consolidated financial statements and analyze variances against budget/forecast

  • Support budget planning and rolling forecasts; provide meaningful insights to guide business decisions

  • Maintain and improve internal controls and ensure compliance with local regulatory requirements (CRA, IRS, etc.)

  • Liaise with banks, auditors, and government agencies as needed

  • Evaluate financial systems and recommend improvements to support growth and scalability

  • Assist with cross-border payroll and benefits-related financial planning and reconciliations

  • Partner with HR, Sales, and Operations to support financial planning and cross-department initiatives

  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes and reporting

  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statements

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive financial reporting packages for senior management and stakeholders

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and all regulatory requirements

  • Coordinate and manage external audit processes and relationships with auditing firms

Accounting Operations

  • Supervise accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger functions

  • Implement and maintain robust internal controls and financial processes

  • Oversee inventory accounting and costing methodologies specific to display manufacturing

  • manage project-based accounting for custom retail display installations

  • Ensure accurate job costing and margin analysis for manufacturing projects

Strategic Financial Planning

  • Lead annual budgeting and forecasting processes

  • Develop financial models to support business planning and decision-making

  • Analyze profitability by product line, customer segment, and project type

  • Provide financial insights to support pricing strategies and contract negotiations

  • Monitor key performance indicators and provide variance analysis

Team Leadership & Development

  • Manage and mentor accounting staff, including accounts payable/receivable clerks

  • Establish performance goals and conduct regular performance reviews

  • Foster professional development and cross-training within the finance team

  • Collaborate effectively with operations, sales, and procurement team

Industry-Specific Responsibilities

  • Understand and account for the unique aspects of retail display manufacturing, including custom fabrication costs

  • Manage revenue recognition for both product sales and installation services

  • Analyze material costs and supply chain financial impacts

  • Support contract review and financial risk assessment for large retail clients

Required Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

  • CPA designation

Experience

  • Minimum 5-7 years of progressive accounting and finance experience including at least 2 years managing Canadian and U.S. financial operations

  • Previous experience in manufacturing, construction, or project-based industries preferred

  • Experience with retail industry clients or display/fixtures manufacturing highly desirable

  • Proven supervisory and team management experience

  • CPA designation (or equivalent) preferred

  • Deep understanding of Canadian and U.S. GAAP, tax structures, and compliance requirements

  • Experience with cross-border financial reporting and multi-entity consolidations

  • Proficiency with financial systems and Excel/Google Sheets

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills

  • Experience working in a growth environment or mid-size company is a plus

  • A proactive mindset with a strong sense of ownership and accountability

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar manufacturing-focused platforms)

  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial modeling

  • Knowledge of project accounting and job costing systems

  • Experience with inventory management and costing in manufacturing environments

  • Familiarity with revenue recognition standards (ASC 606)

  • Experience with multi-location or multi-entity accounting

  • Familiarity with government contracting or large retail chain accounting requirements
